Male Breast Aesthetics
Gynecomastia - Male Breast Aesthetics
Men also have breast tissue as in women, and in some cases this tissue may be more than it should be. This condition is called “gynecomastia” in medicine. The enlargement of the chest area in men due to diet, exercise or hormonal weight gain is also called gynecomastia, and this should not be confused with the development of the chest muscles. Gynecomastia can be observed in adolescence and later ages. Breast tissue change during adolescence is dependent on hormones and can be corrected at the end of puberty by reducing the level of hormones to normal. In advancing ages, there is an increase in volume in the adipose tissue and mammary glands in the breasts due to both the decrease in male hormone levels and weight gain. If gynecomastia is caused by the enlargement of the mammary glands, the enlarged excess parts of the mammary glands are removed. For gynecomastia, which occurs as a result of the increase in adipose tissue, liposuction is performed.
The operation, which is performed only with liposuction, is performed under general anesthesia. It takes about 1 hour and the patient is discharged on the same day.
If the patient has excess fat tissue and skin, surgical intervention is required. The operation takes approximately 1.5 hours under general anesthesia and requires 1 night hospital stay.
Your control is done on the 7th day of the operation. You may have mild pain in the early period, but it is usually comfortable with the painkillers given. The edema that occurs in the early period will pass over time. Bandage should be used for 1 week. You can return to social life in 2-3 days.
What should be considered before the operation?
You should share all your expectations and concerns with your doctor. You should answer in detail the information you will be asked about your general health status, and inform your doctor about the diseases you have had and the medications you use. Factors affecting anesthesia such as blood thinners, vitamins, alcohol and smoking should be discontinued as of the date prescribed by your doctor.
Nothing should be drunk or eaten, including water, at least 6 hours before the operation time.
What should be known about anesthesia?
General anesthesia is a sleep period in which there is no awareness so that the patient does not feel pain and does not move during the operation. It can be applied to all patients regardless of age and gender.
Since it is personal, your anesthesiologist will evaluate your condition before the surgery according to the drugs you use, your diseases and your laboratory results. If you have received anesthesia in your previous surgeries, your past information will be questioned. Your circulatory and respiratory systems are checked. A fasting period of at least 6 hours is required before the operation. For the safety of these patients, it is important to avoid vomiting and aspiration.
You will be put to sleep by administering medication through the vascular access in general anesthesia. Since the drugs used are short-acting, their effects do not remain after the surgery. In general anesthesia, laryngeal mask can be used or intratracheal intubation can be applied. As a result, a sore throat may be felt after the surgery, although it is rare.
After the surgery, you are free to eat and drink after your consciousness and reflexes are restored.
Nausea and vomiting are common side effects of general anesthesia. On the other hand, anti-nausea drugs are given in the service.
