Breast Reduction

The development of the breasts begins in adolescence and changes continue until the end of the reproductive age. Birth, breastfeeding, advancing age and excessive weight gain cause changes in the size of the breasts and the degree of sagging. Sometimes due to genetic or hormonal factors, breasts can be very large compared to the body from an earlier age.

Although breast reduction surgery is an aesthetic operation, it is an operation that affects the quality of life positively and is preferred for reasons such as neck and back pain, which are frequently encountered especially in women with large breasts, and restriction of physical activities.

The operation takes an average of 4-5 hours under general anesthesia. The reduction process is performed by paying attention to the protection of the nipple and milk ducts. After the operation, it is necessary to stay in the hospital for 1 night.

Your final control is done on the 7th day of the operation. You can return to social life on the 10th day. The edema that occurs in the early postoperative period will be relieved in time, and the taut and upright breasts will regain their natural appearance. You should use the special bra worn after the operation for 1 month, and avoid heavy arm movements and heavy sports for 2 months.

What should be considered before the operation?

You should share all your expectations and concerns with your doctor. You should answer in detail the information you will be asked about your general health status, and inform your doctor about the diseases you have had and the medications you use. Factors affecting anesthesia such as blood thinners, vitamins, alcohol and smoking should be discontinued as of the date prescribed by your doctor.

Nothing should be drunk or eaten, including water, at least 6 hours before the operation time.

What should be known about anesthesia?

General anesthesia is a sleep period in which there is no awareness so that the patient does not feel pain and does not move during the operation. It can be applied to all patients regardless of age and gender.

Since it is personal, your anesthesiologist will evaluate your condition before the surgery according to the drugs you use, your diseases and your laboratory results. If you have received anesthesia in your previous surgeries, your past information will be questioned. Your circulatory and respiratory systems are checked. A fasting period of at least 6 hours is required before the operation. For the safety of these patients, it is important to avoid vomiting and aspiration.

You will be put to sleep by administering medication through the vascular access in general anesthesia. Since the drugs used are short-acting, their effects do not remain after the surgery. In general anesthesia, laryngeal mask can be used or intratracheal intubation can be applied. As a result, a sore throat may be felt after the surgery, although it is rare.

After the surgery, you are free to eat and drink after your consciousness and reflexes are restored.

Nausea and vomiting are common side effects of general anesthesia. On the other hand, anti-nausea drugs are given in the service.
